Insight on the 2025 National Science Month Celebration

Image
The theme of this year’s National Science Month, “Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation,” reminds us that the future depends on how brave we are in exploring the things we don’t yet understand. Science is not just about solving equations or doing experiments in the lab—it’s about finding answers to the challenges we face in everyday life. From fighting climate change to developing new medicines and technologies, science continues to guide us toward a better tomorrow. Science and society are always connected. Every breakthrough in technology, energy, or medicine changes how we live, work, and interact with one another. Looking ahead, innovations like artificial intelligence, renewable energy, biotechnology, and space exploration will continue to shape our world. But these changes also bring responsibilities—society has to make sure that science is used ethically and for the good of everyone, not just a few. This theme also inspires us to see the “unk...

Mission Possible: Climate Change in the Philippines

Image
The Philippines, an archipelago nation, finds itself on the front lines of climate change. Filipinos are no strangers to environmental shifts, but the current pace and intensity of these changes pose unprecedented challenges to their lives and living conditions. The predominant reasons for these sudden and progressive environmental changes are multifaceted, stemming from both global phenomena and localized vulnerabilities. Scientific consensus points to global warming as the primary cause behind this trend. Warmer ocean temperatures fuel stronger typhoons, leading to more devastating storm surges, widespread flooding, and extensive damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and homes. For instance, events like Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yo...

My Unforgettable Intramural Experience

This year's intramurals were a truly unforgettable experience, and I'm so glad I got to be part of it as a Red Cross officer. The days leading up to the event were filled with intensive training sessions. We learned everything from basic first aid to how to handle more serious athletic injuries. It was a lot of hard work, but we knew it was crucial to be prepared for any situation that might arise. Our primary role was to be on standby, ready to aid any athlete in need, and knowing we were capable of providing that help was a source of great pride. Even with our important duties, my friends and I made sure we had time to support our fellow students. The sports dance competition was a highlight for us, especially since our classmate, Aleina, and her partner, Emman, were competing. We found a great spot in the stands and screamed our lungs out, waving signs and cheering them on with every step. Their routine was incredible, and you could feel the energy from the crowd as they dan...
