 President Ferdinand Marcos declared July as Nutrition Month under Presidential Decree No.491, signed on June 25, 1974, according to the National Nutrition Council. This decree aimed to raise awareness among Filipinos about the importance of good nutrition.


Fifty-one years have passed since the declaration of Nutrition Month—thankfully, it still strives and spreads awareness among Filipinos, especially students. In Ilocos Sur National High School, every July, we celebrate Nutrition Month by doing many activities, such as poster making, cooking competitions, and many more

But on July 14, our ICT teacher, Ma'am Evelyn, unexpectedly announced that there would be a Nutri Quiz that day. Of course, we, Maxwell ( Our section ) students, would not back down, which is why I volunteered, and then a classmate of mine, Cyril, also volunteered to be my partner. We walked through the library since that was where the Nutri Quiz would occur. We walked through those hallways knowing absolutely nothing since we were not prepared. The speaker gave us about 10 minutes to review, so that's when we took our chances to review. In the first round, we got two wrong answers; in the second round, we got 4 wrong. In the third round, we were kinda nervous because the third one was identification, but as the round, we realized the questions were the same in each round, which is why we tried to remember the answers. When it was finally over, Cyril and I were ready to face the results. We didn't think we had any chance to win, but suddenly, we heard our section, Maxwell, had placed second place. We were stunned because we weren't able to review beforehand, but we reviewed on the spot. We were thankful that we were able to represent our section, Maxwell. All is well, Maxwell. God is good, and all is well.

A Greener Tomorrow

  Participating in the clean-up drive was a truly eye-opening experience that left a lasting impression on me. It not only allowed me to contribute to the community but also made me realize the significant impact of our daily actions on the environment. Witnessing the amount of waste and debris that had accumulated in our surroundings was a stark reminder of the importance of responsible waste management and the need for sustainable practices. What struck me most was the collective effort of volunteers from diverse backgrounds coming together to make a difference. Seeing people unite for a common cause, despite their differences, was truly inspiring. It showed me the power of community action and the positive change that can be achieved when individuals work together towards a shared goal.
